With summer just around the corner, it is a great time to start planning fun summertime activities. Whether that be hosting a backyard barbecue or going to the amusement park with friends and family, summer is a busy time of exciting excursions and valuable time spent with loved ones. For myself, summer means a long-awaited trip to Korea to visit family and enjoy the food and sights of my home country. With Korea's vast abundance of awesome things to do, it may be a little daunting to plan your trip if you ever find yourself in Korea during the summertime. However, I will be highlighting some key sights and attractions to help narrow down your list. I hope you enjoy!

1. Lotte World

If you enjoy amusement parks as much as I do, then Lotte World will surely not disappoint. Lotte World features a variety of fun rides for all ages both indoors and outdoors, and even has a section of gentler rides dedicated for very young children. If you're not huge on rides, don't fret, as Lotte World has plenty of other fun attractions as well, such as colourful parades, cute gift shops, food vendors selling all sorts of fun fair food, and plenty of spots to take photos. You can even rent out school uniforms to wear for the day, which is a beloved tradition of Koreans! From its iconic views to the wide variety of colourful attractions, Lotte World is a must-visit place in Korea!

2. Sokcho Beach

Sokcho Beach, located on Korea's east coast, is one of Korea's most popular vacation spots in the summer. Lined with fine white sand and a gorgeous array of pine trees, this beach is the perfect scenic spot to unwind and enjoy the ocean. You can also rent out beach equipment for a more enjoyable and convenient experience. In addition to the beach, Sokcho is famous for their delicious seafood, caught fresh from the sea. Why not enjoy the ocean and feast on fresh seafood at the gorgeous Sokcho Beach?

3. Han River Picnic

The Han River runs directly through the city of Seoul, and in recent years, it has become extremely popular for people to enjoy picnics along the river's shore. In the warmer months, you'll find plenty of people gathered on blankets with their friends on the grassy shore sharing food and laughs. Picnics along the Han River are especially popular among the younger demographic, as young adults enjoy the company of their friends and shared drinks along the shore. Among the most popular menu items to bring on a picnic are Korean fried chicken and beer, a combination known as chimaek. If you ever find yourself in Seoul during summer, why not enjoy a feast along the refreshing Han River?

4. Bamdokkaebi Night Market

If you are looking for a lively, bustling atmosphere to spend your evening in, Bamdokkaebi Night Market is the perfect place. Set along the Han River, this night market boasts numerous attractions such as street food, accessories, fashion, beverages, and other knick-knacks. The lights from the various stalls and the bridge that runs over the market reflect beautifully off the Han River, creating a gorgeous, vibrant atmosphere. If you want to enjoy the market but want to avoid stifling crowds, I recommend that you go a little early, as the market opens before it gets dark and draws hundreds of people.

5. Caribbean Bay

Modelled after the beautiful coasts of the Caribbean Islands, Caribbean Bay is one of Korea's most popular water parks. Each year, this water park draws throngs of people looking to enjoy the numerous attractions it has to offer, such as the thrilling water slides, wave pools, and the Super Flume, which is an exciting water roller coaster ride. In addition, Caribbean Bay is located adjacent to Everland, which is another extremely popular theme park in Korea. This makes it convenient to enjoy two of Korea's most popular theme parks and spend a weekend of delight.

6. Hanok Stay

If you're looking to try something memorable, why not try a Hanok stay? Hanok stays, where you spend a few nights in a beautiful Korean traditional Hanok house, have become extremely popular in the past years, and for good reason. The experience allows you to immerse yourself in Korean culture while relaxing in gorgeous tranquillity. Although packages may differ, some Hanok stays offer traditional Korean meals as well, allowing you to have a taste of the traditional Korean lifestyle. This summer, take refuge from the heat in the peaceful ambiance of a Hanok.
